A Kenyan court freed on bail an Italian athletics agent accused of doping runners on Friday.
Federico Rosa, who manages several top Kenyan athletes, was arrested by Kenyan police and questioned earlier in the week over doping allegations that continue to plague Kenya.
The athletics agent is accused of having “conspired to cause injury by doping, to the reputation and profession of athletes”.
An affidavit, signed by Police Chief Inspector Joseph Indeke also accused Rosa of “preventing some of them from their lawful exercise of their profession” due to doping.
Rosa was released on a $3,000 cash bail and ordered to appear in court again on July 14 .
Rosa runs Italy-based Rosa & Associati, managing athletes including former Boston City Marathon and Chicago Marathon winner Rita Jeptoo, who failed an out-of-competition test for the banned blood-booster EPO.
Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta signed an anti-doping amendment bill into law after the World Anti-Doping Agency said Kenyan legislation passed in April needed further changes to comply with WADA’s code.
